Pots in Progress: New Yunomi

New Pots: Yunomi

Yunomi are one of my favourite forms! They’re a kind of Japanese drinking vessel with a high foot, meant for holding in the hand. These pots will go into my second gas reduction firing, moving forward with the results of my first reduction firing. There were many things I like about this firing, but the colour pigments I used did not come out strongly. Here, I’m using cobalt for decoration having prepared a pigment at two concentrations. Hopefully this will result in a light and dark blue.

The feet are more elevated in this batch of pots. I’ve also introduced more nature motifs and tried new patterns/decoration with the ‘rule of thirds’ in mind.

I’m not entirely sure how the pots will come out of the firing, but I look forward to seeing the results.
