Digital-Analogue Leach
In this area of the PhD, I explored ‘digital Leach’ using CAD software and the laser cutter. The forms were made using contoured digital models of Leach Tableware bowls and mugs that were divided at 0° 22.5° 45° 67.5° and 90°. Some of the resulting models comprised up to 60 components that took up to 3 days to assemble. The research then considered how other materials, like wood, could be used to express digitally combined and altered Leach forms. I then used this new knowledge of materials and model making to return to clay using an acrylic mould and the potter’s wheel to make a series of digital-analogue Leach Tableware Shallow Stacking Bowls.
